Homecoming Session

My daughter and I spent the afternoon out the day of her homecoming dance.  She has become one of the most beautiful young ladies I know...I am so very proud of her.  After our shoot, we had lunch at Dr. Jazz in Lebanon.  The owner was nice enough to offer letting us take a picture of her at the soda fountain counter.

St. Louis-Part 2

What a gorgeous week it has been out here in St. Louis.  We are taking advantage of the great weather and venturing out on mini walking tours.  This past weekend we went back downtown and walked a different area.  I made John walk almost all the way over the Eades Bridge so that I could get a good shot of the city.  This will be cool to do at evening/night sometime and catch the reflection of the city in the water.

Sun Stars and Lens Flares

When John had the idea to shoot the Arch with the sun behind it, I was reminded of something I had read about creating sun stars in photography.  This can be done with any kind of lights...tree lights, street lights, sun, stars.  In manual mode, set your aperture really high like f18-f22, then adjust your other settings for correct exposure.  Here are a few I created this weekend.

My aperture wasn't high enough to create the sun star in this first one, but I got a lens flare, which still gave it a nice effect.

This, although looks like a night shot, was taken late morning.

10,000 Steps

John says I need to get in 10,000 steps a day.  I haven't used a counter yet to see if I'm hitting it or not, but we've been trying to go out on the weekends around town to walk.  This week we went back downtown, walked the mall district, had lunch at the Brewhouse Restaurant.  Sunday, we had to run my lens up to the camera shop to be looked at, which is across town.  So, we made a stop at Forest Park.  I got a few nice pics but you can tell fall color is just around the corner.  I'll have to go back when the color comes in.  It's a great place to photograph...the park is huge.  Here are the day's park pics.  I'll post the Downtown ones seperately.

Loved the smile on this girl's face.

...and these two cute brothers were having fun watching themselves in the water.

We took some more pics of each other.  Interesting working with that harsh sun.

We had some good news this week.  Beki got her acceptance letter and scholarship award notice for Missouri State University.  We are very proud of her.  Don't know yet if this is where she'll be going.  She has a few more applications to do and we'll have to wait and see what these schools can offer.

The Gift

Delivered this week, a gift I never expected arrived in the mail.  This story begins, it seems a lifetime ago, when I worked at Owens Comm...
